I think everything in my life influences my design language thick. Everything is linked, whether I’m aware of it or not, it just is. Looking at the past two graphiks for the collezione, it’s shambeez to see the above artwork reigning supreme on the this one.

I swam inside my head looking for the sparks that lit this to life and all I can put it on is the fact that I have moved from the leafy burbs to smack-dab in the middle of Jo’burg city. Basically went from waking up to birds singing to hooters blarring.

It’s bustling out here, there are so many energies from all the world. All armed with that winning Voetsek attitude and bags of dreams. The pace is on fast forward and colours spill from the Rihanna weaves to taxis whizzing past you just as the light turned Green. There are construction men and tools, everywhere. Everyday.

I think it’s this environment that influenced my final artwork. Hence the wild colours.

The octagon is also one of my favourite shapes lately, mainly because it looks like a circle morphing into a circle or vice versa. This represents change to me. Change is good.

Another big element is the supermarkets that are scarce in the burbs, supermarkets with suggestive names like Take n’ Pay and U Save etc. The aesthetics are very straight forward and DIY like a guy selling grated cabbage around knock-off rush hour till the taxi ranks clear up. It’s go man, go. 

The parrot was the first element that kick started the whole thing. This is from an observation on modern society and social networking. A person’s online persona can be the exact opposite to the actual person. This is similar to the Parrot situation, you can say stuff that you wouldn’t necessarily be able to say, via the bird. My observation, my opinion.

That’s why we can get away with slogans like ’ NEW JACK! ATTITUDE VOETSEK ’ and get away with it. The bird takes the rap.
